Like Mother Like Daughter
membuatku hanya sempat mengucap "selamat ulang tahun" lewat puisi.
Ingin tahu bagaimana rasanya menjadi Ibu?
Coba lepaskan tangannya, tapi tetap pegang erat hatinya.
Coba turuti keinginannya dan penuhi kebutuhannya
tanpa membuatnya jadi manja.
Coba tutup telinga dan matamu dari keluh kesahnya
tapi rentangkan lenganmu untuk memeluknya.
Coba kunci pintu jika ia pulang terlambat,
tapi selalu sediakan selimut kapanpun ia pulang karena merasa tersesat.
Coba kendalikan amarahmu dan ubah itu jadi belaian lembut di kepalanya,
bukan tamparan keras di pipinya.
Coba cintai dan tangisi setiap baik dan buruk pada dirinya,
meski ia benci dan memaki setiap baik dan buruk pada dirimu.
Coba,
lakukan semua itu.
Mari kita lihat seberapa jauh kau sudah jadi Ibu bagi anak-anakmu...

Try to let go off their hands, but hold still their hearts.
Try to fulfill their wants and needs without making them spoiled.
Try to shut your eyes and ears to their complaints,
but open your arms to embrace them.
Try to lock the door if they come home late,
but prepare the warm blanket if they got lost along the way.
Try to control your anger and convert it
into a soft caress in their heads, not a hard slap in their cheeks.
Try to love and weep for each and every good and bad in them,
no matter how much they hate and yell for each and every good and bad in you.
